Groote Schuur Estate Tour

The magnificent former home of Cecil John Rhodes

Elegant Grand Duchess of Cape Architecture with the ungainly name of Large Barn or Storage Shed. Home to orchestrations of the deep dark era of Apartheid and seat of the historical meetings, between Nelson Mandela and FW De Klerk, that led to the freedom of a Nation.

Join us for a morning and pay an exclusive visit to this beautiful Estate. One of Cape Town's best kept secrets - an exclusive guided tour through the historical residence of South Africa's State President. Donated to the People of SA by the generous benefactor and former Prime Minister of the Cape, Mr Cecil John Rhodes.

From humble beginnings as a food storage barn built in 1657and nestling on the lower slopes of Table Mountain, watched over by the looming peak of Devil's Peak, this elegant gentleman's retreat of yesteryear finds itself in the middle of a bustling metropolis and yet standing on the veranda overlooking the graceful manicured gardens one seems strangely removed from the hub-bub of the outside world.

With the Architecture firmly entrenched in the Cape Dutch Style the estate has been painstakingly developed over the last 3 centuries, the latter developments being fully credited to the Architectural Genius Sir Herbert Baker - who essentially rebuilt the house twice.
